Job Description
This position is open until filled. We are currently conducting final interviews (1/20/09).

ISTE's Research & Evaluation Department is expanding. We are seeking an experienced senior level Research Associate, yet will consider those that do not meet all of the qualifications specified. A Master's Degree, or equivalent is required.

The position is located in beautiful downtown Eugene, Oregon, home of the University of Oregon. Just two hours south of Portland, Eugene is nestled between the Coast Range and the Cascades and is only an hour from the beach and snow skiing.

Job Purpose: To develop, design and execute research and evaluation projects in the field of educational technology. Typically supervises an entire or significant portion of a research project.

Essential Functions:

Contributes to the development of projects, including grant research, client contacts, and proposal writing.

Develops research instruments, including survey, observation, and interview protocols.

Respond to grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government agencies.

Serves as a resource for ISTE staff, members, and customers for research-based best practices in educational technology integration.

Conducts and supervises research and field data collection.

Serves as lead evaluator on projects, including management of budgets and sub-contractors.

Conducts quantitative and qualitative data analyses.

Writes and presents reports to clients and funding agencies.

Conducts needs assessment of systems and recommends strategies for improvement.

Presents at conferences and workshops.

Supervises relationships with all contract researchers involved in projects on which the RA is lead evaluator or project manager for the Research and Evaluation Department.


Requirements
Typically requires: Master's Degree in one of the social sciences, such as education, psychology, or sociology AND 5 years of direct experience in the field. Must be familiar with a variety fo the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Expertise in research methodologies and differentiation of instruction. Requires valid drivers license with a good driving record.

Desirable: PhD in related field. Experience in educational technology.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

This position requires a combination of leadership and field research skills. It also requires the knowledge of advanced statistical packages such as SPSS. Must have abilities as a project leader, designing research and evaluation projects in schools and other educational settings, carrying out the research, developing and implementing budegts, and organizing staff and other resources. Must have strong organization and time management skills. Requires knowledge of educational technology, quantitative and qualitative research methodology, research and evaluation design, data analysis software and techniques, and communication tools. Ability to present data graphically in Microsoft Word tables, Excel Charts, and other graphic formats. Strong written and oral communications skills are essential. Must have comfort level with e-mail and LAN systems, web-based discussion platforms, telephone, and video-conferencing. Must have the ability to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality in the handling of research data. Strong interpersonal skills required. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and works cooperatively with members, customers, staff, management, school administrators, teachers, students, other researchers, and public and private representatives. Physical and Environmental Elements: This is primarily a sedentary office classification. Employees work in an office with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances.

Some business travel is required which includes both air and land transportation. It may be necessary to handle personal luggage and operate a motor vehicle. The position must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds when preparing for a conference, meeting or exhibition.

Valid Driver’s License with good driving record required.
